Today we drive from York to Liverpool - about a hundred miles.
Excerpted from Wikipedia:
Liverpool is ranked at No. 6 on the list of the most visited UK cities. It was home to both the Cunard and White Star Lines, and was the port of registry of the ocean liners RMS Titanic, RMS Lusitania, RMS Queen Mary, and RMS Olympic. The city is closely associated with the arts, especially music; the popularity of the Beatles, widely regarded as the most influential musical act in history, contributed to the city's status as a tourist destination. Since then, Liverpool has continued to produce many notable musicians and record labels—musicians from the city have produced 56 No. 1 hit singles, more than any other city in the world.
Its status as a port city attracted a diverse population from a wide range of cultures, primarily Ireland, Norway, and Wales. It is also home to the oldest black community in the UK and the oldest Chinese community in Europe. Natives of Liverpool (and occasionally longtime residents) are formally referred to as "Liverpudlians" but are more often called "Scousers", a reference to the form of stew made popular by sailors in the city, which also became the most common name for the local accent and dialect.

Our AirBnB is in the neighborhood of St Luke's Church.
St Luke's Church, more commonly known by locals as the bombed-out church, is a former Anglican parish church in Liverpool, England. The church was built between 1811 and 1832, and badly damaged by bombs during the Liverpool Blitz in 1941 and has been a roofless shell ever since. It now stands as a memorial to those who died in the war, and has also been hired as a venue for exhibitions and events.
The statue, "All together now", by Andy Edwards from Stoke on Trent, shows two soldiers about to play football (soccer) in No Man's Land along the Western Front during World War I.

The church stills stands at the adjacent intersection, the corner of Berry Street and Leece Street, at the top of Bold Street.

The Merseyside Maritime Museum
The Beatles sightseeing tour - highly recommended by Rick Steves.
"Step aboard the colorful Magical Mystery Tour bus for a fun and fascinating 2 hour tour of Beatles' Liverpool. You’ll see all the places associated with John, Paul, George and Ringo as they grew up, met and formed the band that would take the pop world by storm."

"In Penny Lane, the barber shaves another customer
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim
And then the fireman rushes in
From the pouring rain, very strange"

We finish the night at "The Cavern Club", where the Beatles played nearly 300 gigs from 1961-63, before they became a worldwide phenomena. The present day club is a recreation - the original club was demolished in 1973 to make way for a railway ventilation duct, and then structures for a car park - the club was resurrected in 1984 within approximately the same location.
Our bus tour tickets included free entry to listen to a tribute band play within the "tribute" space.
Gerri leading us "home" - it is very late for us, around midnight (photo data indicates 11:29p). We shall sleep in tomorrow. Now back at the "burned out church - St. Luke" and very close to home.
