The Pacific Crest Trail, a.k.a. PCT, is a continuous backpacking trail going from the Mexico/California border to British Columbia, Canada. The distance of the trail is 2,665 miles and travels through California, Oregon, and Washington.
Thru-hiking refers to hiking a long-distance trail end-to-end in a single session. There are three major trails in the United States people thru-hike: the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail. Those few people that thru-hike all three trails are known as "Triple-crowners". I are going to thru-hike the entire 2,664 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail with Tim supporting me along the way. We will start this journey on 2 April 2016 in Campo, CA and will make it to Manning Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada before 1 October 2016. We can't start the hike before April because we would hit snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. If we start too late, we take the chance of still being on the trail into October and hit snow in the Cascade Range in Washington and not be able to finish. In 2015 2,808 people attempted, with only 585 people completing it (21%). As of January 1952, only 4,079 people have completed this hike. Tim and I hope to add our names to this distinguished list!
