We are going to travel around Europe from March - July 2017. We fly out early March, but instead of purchasing commercial airline tickets we are going to fly "Space A." "Space A" or "Space Available" refers to traveling on a military flight when there are unused seats aboard. The good news, we can fly for the low price of $10 per person for an overseas flight! The bad news, we can't make reservations and since we are retired, we are the lowest priority to get one of those unused seats.
We are going to try to fly to Ramstein Air Base in Germany and then travel of 90 days in Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Greece. Why only 90 days? Because there is a thing called the Schengen Agreement where you can only stay in the majority of Europe for only 90 days in a 180 day period. Since we want to spend about 5 months traveling we will then hop to England, Scotland, and Ireland till we are ready to fly back to the United States. These countries are not part of the Schengen Agreement, so we are able to stay there longer.
Here are some of our thoughts and considerations while planning this trip:

Here are some of our thoughts and considerations while planning this trip:
- TIME DURATION: We are back in Florida for a couple of months to decompress and will be ready to travel in March. I have a reunion in Michigan 27 July that I would like to attend, so that is our end of trip deadline.
- SAFETY: Is there a chance of a terrorist attack while we are visiting Europe. Yes, but that is not going to stop us from living our lives. There is a chance of bad things happening to us wherever we may travel. I think our biggest concern on traveling around Europe is pickpocketing. We will focus on keeping our personal belongings safe while there.
- COST: The cost of traveling Europe will be much greater than traveling Asia. I figure it will cost us about $24,000 for 4 months of travel. At about $6,000 a month this is 3 times our cost of traveling Southeast Asia! My rough cost breakdown is:
- Lodging - $12,000
- Food - $6,000
- Travel within Europe - $6,000
