We're heading to Palamidi Fortress, but get a good view of the city beach on our way.
1st step, 998 steps to go. No matter where we go, we find a good work out is involved.
Another of the three fortifications in city - called Bourtzi. The forts are all Venetian, 15th - 18th century.
Akronafplia, the third fortress sits on the far hill, beyond the abandoned layered hotel. Ah, the cruise ship has arrived - prepare for wandering excursion groups - actually we did meet a couple at the top from the USA.
A view over the new section of Nafplio.
A couple of tenders moving cruise ship people - the harbor is way too shallow for a large ship.
At the top, there's not a lot to see or experience of the remaining shell of the fort, except for the awesome views (and the workout).
Now descending...
We made it! The legs are indeed a bit weary now. We look up to see where we've been, hard to believe.
Marcello Raffo, the Italian sweets guy, a friend of Rick Steves. This concoction tasted as good as it looks.
Time for the Nafplio Archeological Museum.
The oldest known suit of armor in all European history - 15th century B.C. - complete with the boar tusk helmet.
The legs say "oy vay, there's that high fortress of sweat again."
Time for a swim - refreshing, but chilly and rocky again.
It's the whole squid this time! And a final view, spot lights lighting it nicely, see the zigging and zagging stairway of a thousand steps.
