Perry - High Springs, FL
It was a pretty noisy night. It seem that people were coming and gong all night from this small RV park…weird. As usual, I woke up before the alarm went off wishing I can fall asleep for another 15 minutes, but my bladder had other plans. It was agreed upon to leave around 8:45 AM, but Patrick decided that he wanted to get a bicycle ride in and go to the CVS in town, so Mel and Bill joined him at 8:15 AM, and about 30 minutes later we met them on the side of the road in Perry. Five miles down, only 75 to go.
There was a head wind most of the day, but the road surface was great and we were able to maintain around a 15 mile per hour average. Our first stop was 23 miles in, so by the time we got there, we already had a pretty good start. During the first break, I looked at the map and noticed there was a bicycle path coming up that ran along the road we were supposed to ride on. Before mile 23 we jumped on the path and was able to ride all the way to our next stop in the town of Mayo, 10 miles away. It was a nice break from riding along the shoulder worrying if the car behind was going to hit us. Plus, the trees along the trail blocked some of the cross wind making it easier to ride.
The next stop we crossed the Suwannee River into Bradford. 50 miles in now, less than 20 to go. The weather all day was humid but cloudy so it wasn’t too bad riding. The last 20 miles seemed to threaten rain, but it held off. We arrived in High Springs and turned north for the last 5 miles where we had an awesome tailwind allowing up to pedal 19 miles per hour…how nice after 75 miles of a slight headwind.
We arrived at the RV Park just before 4 PM…pretty good time for an 80 mile ride. About 1 hour later, Steve, Mary’s fiancee arrived with his parents in their RV. His parents live near Brooksville, only 1 hour away. Steve flew down to be here when we finish the ride on Wednesday.
While hanging out after the ride, Patrick took some awesome portrait photos. I did manage to snap of photo of Patrick as well:

Tomorrow we have 75 miles, but the last 25 of it is on a bicycle trail so it should be a really nice day. Plus, we are in a hotel tomorrow night making it just a little bit sweeter. As a matter of fact, tonight is the last night we (Mel, Bill, Tim, and I) are camping and the last night Jackie and Jim are sleeping in the RV. We are all in a hotel tomorrow night and in and AirBnB in St Augustine. I really like the tent, but Tim is quite a happy camper (literally) tonight. Only 2 riding days left…this is really coming to an end…unbelievable!
