Austin - Bastrop State Park, TX
What a luxurious morning. The alarm went off at 8 AM, but we were awake before the alarm even went off. Patrick wasn’t coming over till 9:30 AM, so there was no rush. We causal woke up, dressed, made breakfast, and just relaxed some before Mary and Steve showed up at 9 AM and Patrick arrived at 9:30 AM. We loaded up Patrick’s truck and by the time all was loaded, we was ready to leave before 9:45 AM.
It is a chilly morning, so most are dressed a bit warm. It was nice that Steve was here to take a starting photo:

To start, we had go get ourselves out of Austin. Since we were about 5 miles south of town and it was a Saturday morning, the traffic wasn’t too bad. After a couple of turns, we were out on country roads enjoying the ride.
It was hard to believe that we saw a house with a smallish yard with a cow right in front…what the heck?!?
Check out this great shot:
We arrived in Bastrop around lunchtime. I knew that we wouldn’t return to town once we went to the RV park, so I suggested we stop at a pretty cool looking bar and restaurant for lunch and a few beers. All agreed and we enjoyed a couple of hours eating and drinking at the Old Town Restaurant and Bar.
We the finished the last 1.5 miles to the campground, set up camp, showered, and returned to the RV site. Tonight we are lucky enough to have Josh, a very generous friend of Mary’s, drop off some smoke brisket for dinner. Also, Cathy and Arnaud from Washington D.C. came by with some delicious French wine and cheese and bread to enjoy. What a great night of awesome food and wine. Thanks to all for helping make this day incredible.
Steve was ready to drive us back to the tent site by 8:30 PM since he has to leave by 4 AM to catch his very early flight our of Austin. Since tomorrow is only a 50 mile day, every agreed to leave around 10 AM, so it will be another relaxed morning. Sounds good to me.
