I don't know if I mentioned to you that we are in the month of Ramadan.  Malaysia is about 50% Muslim, but the area we are traveling is almost 80% Malay of which 100% are Muslim.  During Ramadan, Muslim fast from dawn to sunrise, so all of the Malay businesses and restaurants are closed during that time.  Since we didn't awake before sunrise for breakfast, our choices were very limited.  Luckily there was an open Subway very close to our apartment, so that is what we had.

TIm had a teriyaki chicken sandwich, Peter and Susan had a steak and cheese sandwich, and I had a tuna and scrambled egg sandwich (I don't think they sell that in the US).

The sandwiches did their job and gave us the calories we needed to walk along the beach to visit Batu Hitam (Black Stones) Beach.

Here are some photos of our 2 mile roundtrip walk along the South China Sea.  It was about 1 hour to low tide, so the water was way out.

We made it back to the apartment around 12:30 and decided to take advantage of the pool at the apartment.  They had these awesome chairs that let you lounge in the water...quite nice.

I guess we hung out there for about 1.5 - 2 hours until we decided to head back into the air conditioning.  After everyone showered, it was too early for dinner, so we lounged around and watched a movie on Netflix (Limbo).  After watching Limbo, we set out in search for dinner.  It was somewhat early, around 5:30 PM, but we haven't really eaten anything since breakfast.  Well, I guess except for some of that awesome fruit that was purchased yesterday.

There are some restaurants across the street from the apartment that were opened, so we attempted to cross the street...and we couldn't.  There was constant traffic with two lanes each way and not an intersection in sight that we could walk to in order to cross.  We tried for about 10 minutes and weighed our options.  We could go back up to the apartment, get the keys to the car, and drive across the street (No); we could order a Grab (Uber) and go to a recommended restaurant about 10 minute drive away (I ordered a Grab, but there were no available drivers since they are preparing to break the fast); or we can eat whatever is on this side of the street (BINGO).  Peter and Tim were interested in an Korean chicken restaurant, while Susan and I went off to find something else.  There was a pizza place that didn't look great, there was Subway (again?), and there was a snack bar by the pool of the apartment.  We opted for the snack bar and ordered fried noodles.  When we met back up with Peter and Tim, they said their food was awful, so the ate some fried noodles as well.

Before returning to the apartment, we popped into the nearby 7-Eleven and picked up some ramen noodle bowls for breakfast tomorrow, since we are now catching on to the Ramadan rules.

We were all pretty tired from a not too busy day.  Maybe it was the hour long walk along the beach in the full sun or it was the lazing by the pool, or it was the fried noodles in our bellies.  Whatever it was, we were all too tired to watch another movie, and I was too tired to finish this blog.

Here it is 2 days later and it is finally done.  Until tomorrow's blog (which was actually yesterday)...

I think I'd starve there. Seems like a lot of effort spent on finding food.
