It's the Flixbus to Oslo today!
July 30
In the morning, first on the agenda, to the Nobel Peace Center (we'll visit there later) (formerly the train station) to buy a 3-day metro museum pass (The Oslo City Pass).
A fishing boat berthed just below City Hall (we'll visit there later also)...
Our city walk tour begins at the Bronze Tiger statue...
(Cue vinyl-record stylus screeching) -- We divert and end up at the Munch Museum to start our Day 1 Oslo touring -- the weather has us on edge today, "will it rain, will it shine,..." -- let's goto the art museum!
Before we stand in front of paintings and contemplate the significance of art, we head up to the top floor to get a high view of the modern city scape.
Edvard Munch (12 December 1863 – 23 January 1944) was a Norwegian painter. His 1893 work The Scream became one of Western art's most acclaimed images. We'll see it a bit later.
The Katarina Elevator (1881-1936; painting from 1934), used by pedestrians to move to different levels of Oslo; we would use the replacement version a bit later in our Oslo adventures.
And now........................here it is.......................
We start with a viewing of a wood-cut relief printing -- 3-versions of "The Scream" are rotated through the day in a special exhibit space to limit exposures to the "elements".
"The agonized face in the painting (1893) has become one of the most iconic images in art, seen as symbolizing the anxiety of the human condition. Munch's work, including The Scream, had a formative influence on the Expressionist movement."
It's ramen for lunch - yeah, Norwegian cuisine starts out Asian-style for us...
Next up:
"Norway's Resistance Museum also known as the Norwegian Home Front Museum focuses on Norwegian resistance during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany from 1940 to 1945. The museum displays equipment, photos and documents from the war years."

Now done with that next museum, just outside, we look over a portion of Oslo Harbor - with the tall ships it looks like the days of old...
Just around the corner from the resistance museum we notice a castle -- and it's covered by our City Pass!
Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that was built to protect and provide a royal residence for the city.

The sarcophagi of King Haakon VII and Queen Maud (the white sarcophagus), King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha (the green sarcophagus) -- alive, they stood in the viewing balcony, dead, they lie here in the catacombs for eternity...
Back to some city street touring...
"Marimekko Corporation is a Finnish textiles, clothing, and home furnishings company founded in Helsinki in 1951. Marimekko made important contributions to fashion in the 1960s. It is particularly noted for its brightly colored printed fabrics and simple styles, used both in women's garments and in home furnishings."
Imma gonna leave this right here (photo of the candle at our table in one of the two breweries)...
