We have about 100 miles and ferry at the midpoint of the drive to get to Saaremaa - translated to English, it's "Island Land".
"Saaremaa is the largest and most populous island in Estonia. Measuring 1,032 sq mi, its population is 31,435 (as of January 2020). The main island of the West Estonian archipelago, it is located in the Baltic Sea, south of Hiiumaa island and forms the northwest perimeter of the Gulf of Riga."

Our ferry arrives and opens its giant mouth to bring us and our auto aboard. It's just under 30 minutes to cross.
Actually the ferry takes us to Muhu Island, and then a causeway will take us by auto to Saaremaa.
There are some low key sights along the way, now on Sarremaa, before we locate our lodging.
Humm, from earlier this morning the car dashboard told us one of our tires is losing air. They all look about the same at this point, but there's a handy and free air hose at a filling station just outside the fort. We check the door jamb for the pressure numbers, and see what's going on. Sure 'nuf, the right rear tire is about 20 % down, and thar she blows there's a screw in the tread. It's Saturday and the 'big' town has a tire shop that closes in an hour, till Monday. We make it there and the shop hooks us up with a patch - yeah, they dismount the tire from the rim and patch it from the inside. After a re-balance, we're good to go. |
It's our very own retreat, at least for a couple of nights, complete with a wood-fired sauna (on the right), which we used both nights to good effect.
After getting settled in, it's time for a brewery visit, before heading back to the "ranch"...
...and eating on the "cheap" - shrimp quesadillas whipped up by you-guessed-who - Chef Gerri.
