Back to continuing the city tour we started yesterday morning...
The Royal Palace at the end of the lane; Wayne the polar bear - Christian takes a load off...
King Harald and Queen Sonja
Next we boarded a City Metro Ferry for a spin around Oslo harbor - also covered by our City-Pass.
At the first metro ferry stop (we stay on)...
Sun-worshippers enjoyed the "beach", whilst metro ferries hit various landings like nautical busses.
"The Oslo Opera House is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera house in Norway. The structure contains 1,100 rooms in a total area of 49,000 m2 (530,000 sq ft). The main auditorium seats 1,364 and two other performance spaces can seat 200 and 400. The main stage is 16 m (52 ft) wide and 40 m (130 ft) deep. It is the largest cultural building constructed in Norway since Nidarosdomen was completed circa 1300."
There's Akershus Fortress again, which we had toured two days ago...
...and there's the Roald Amundsen Museum, with Kon Tiki nearby.
Now touring the Nobel Peace Center...
"The Nobel Peace Center is a showcase for the Nobel Peace Prize and the ideals it represents. "
And now, another art museum, a really large one, we wouldn't even be able to withstand seeing it all...
"National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design holds the Norwegian state's public collection of art, architecture, and design objects. The collection totals over 400,000 works, amongst them the first copy of Edvard Munch's The Scream from 1893."
We start with works from a Sami artist (of the Sámi-speaking Indigenous peoples)...
Three Tables: a Photo of the Table, The Table, and a definition of the Table...
...a couple of Picasso's.
...wrapping up with some evocative compositions.
...continuing with the Oslo city tour...
Trinity Church
18th century wooden homes - not a whole lot left of them with city-wide fires of the past...
Edvard Munch's final resting place...
"Old Aker Church - an active parish, the church is the oldest existing building in Oslo.
Old Aker Church was built as a three-naved Romanesque style basilica and constructed from limestone. It is believed to have been erected by King Olav Kyrre in 1080 as a church for all of Vingulmark, the historic area surrounding Oslo. The grounds of Old Aker Church were originally likely the former site of the regional thing during the pre-Christian period."
