Something this way comes (actually we're bringing it to us)...
We cross the Arctic Circle once again, by sea versus land...
This scene looks quite homey at these northern latitudes...
...a few minutes later things are looking quite far north, like the land of misfit toys.
The head waiter is hawking bottles of wine "Aged deep in the Norwegian Sea", another staff member chalked out his vision of a fjord - actually at the bar he kept looking rearward and drew what he saw, and a lime green fishing boat heads back with its catch.
We come upon a cruising sailboat tucked away in a cove.
The MS Nordnorge ("Mail Ship Northern Norway") still flies the Royal Post flag, although it no longer delivers mail in bulk.
The Hurtigruten MS Nordlys passes us (as we pass it) on a Southward journey. Its name translates as “Northern Lights” in the Norwegian and Danish languages , and refers to the Aurora Borealis.
The scenery continues floating by - thatsa big mountain on the fjord.
Another coastal village makes an appearance...
Ah ha, there's some wee glaciers high on the slopes over yonder...
We make a brief port stop...
The "easy life?" above the Arctic Circle - actually with warm sea currents this region is not an Arctic tundra.
Later in the morning a ceremony for the Arctic Circle crossing is performed...
"Onboard, there are light-hearted ceremonies, including a "baptism" when the ship crosses the magic line. The 'baptism' is performed by none other than the sea god himself – King Neptune! But beware, the ceremony is an ice-cold experience, as Neptune prescribes a bucket of freezing water."
Sending our post card home commemorating the crossing...
In the afternoon we get another chance to go ashore to again stretch our legs...
We score another brewery north of the Arctic Circle.
So long Bodø !
Now a midnight detour into the Trollfjord -- here's a shot of the MS Finnmarken doing the same some years back.
The Sun hangs out just below the horizon, so the sky remains in extended twilight.
We continue out of Trollfjord and thread the "needle" to continue northward...
Hours of twilight hangs in the sky as we turn in for the night...
