Leaving Estonia :-(

It was a quick 10 days of Estonia - we didn't know what to expect, and we were very pleasantly surprised of all there was to do and see - it was beyond any doubt a worthy way to start our touring of the North countries.

We have about 140 miles, including the ferry off the island, to get to the big ferry across the Baltic Sea to reenter Finland at Helsinki.

Driving onto our first ferry for the day (we'll walk onto the last, the big 2 1/2 hour one)...

Back near Tallinn, and looking for a couple breweries, the first brewery seems out-of-business and the second is no microbrewery - it's Estonia's biggest, the national brand.

"The history of Saku Brewery begins in the early 19th century, when the owner of Saku estate at that time, Karl Friedrich von Rehbinder  – a nobleman of Baltic German descent – decided to build a distillery and a brewery on his land. The brewery was first documented in October 1820. The production of beer, for the purpose of sale to pubs and taverns, began in the autumn of that year. From the end of the 19th century onward, Saku has remained among the leading breweries in Estonia."

Next stop is a big retail sports outlet - Gerri needs another pair of pants and we both need mosquito netting (we hear in Finland, up North, the blood suckers are big and nasty like Alaska this time of year).  Check out this check-out, you simply drop in your basket of purchases, and lasers find all the price tags and instantly tally the sale - wow!

And across the shopping complex, early dinner is found - at the IKEA!

Now aboard the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki, we get a reminder, in a surprising way, of the upcoming Summer Solstice.  Many ferry passengers are buying duty-free beer and whatnot for the festivities.  The ferry's shop even sells wheeled carriers for those with a big beer appetite and have wimpy arms to carry it.

Next stop Finland!
